A Surprise Shower!

A few months ago, the mother of one of my current brides (Megan) contacted me and asked if I would shoot Megan's bridal shower as one of her gifts to her daughter. Isn't that sweet? Of course I said yes :). Well, the shower was a few days ago and they managed to actually surprise Megan! They convinced her that she was attending a charity fundraising event and the look on her face as she entered the room and realized the party was for her was perfect. I had a blast meeting all the ladies and I'm even more excited for the wedding in June! Enjoy a few of my favorites from the afternoon.

This was the coolest gift -- Megan's mom put together a recipe album which included recipes from all the attendees (her family, Joe's family and all their friends). It had over 100 recipes and took her a year to make! She even included 2 recipes of mine :)

My baby shower!

Hey everyone! I thought I would post a few photos that I shot quickly at my baby shower - it was really beautiful and lots of the details might be useful as wedding decor. My mom threw it for me and I was lucky enough to have lots of family and friends present. Since it was during wedding season, it was not a surprise (because my schedule is so crazy!) and I love decorating for parties and DIY, so I actually helped with a few of the details :).

My mom and I took a ton of inspiration from the internet - sites like Hostess with the Mostess and Style Me Pretty are great party planning resources for all different types of events. I'll try to link some of the sources of items as I go along as well.

The colors were primarily green and white with different shades of pink thrown in - instead of regular centerpieces, we recycled bottles and cans as vases. It turned out so cute - my mom purchased all the flowers the day before (mostly at Trader Joe's, Stew Leonard's and a local farm market) and arranged them the day of the party. I had covered the bottles and cans with different scrapbooking papers and ribbons the week before and she organized them in multiples per table. It turned out a bit shabby chic and a bit garden-looking - it was perfect and the guests took them home at the end.

Ribbons - personal collection, Michael's

The tables were also decorated with pink napkins (from the venue), a funny quiz and small guest favors. I made a small thank you note for the top and my mom filled the boxes with candy.

Quiz - Etsy (editable pdf document, also came with editable download invitation)
Flower boxes - Martha Stewart Crafts, purchased at Michael's
Candy - Trader Joe's

My mom also created a gorgeous dessert table! She ordered three cakes from a local bakery and used my collection of cake plates (yes, I love all types of kitchenware, including cake plates!) to display the cakes. We also thrifted a few more plates and glass candlesticks to create a few more cake plates (glue a candlestick to the bottom of a large plate = new cakestand!). My mother-in-law, my mom and her friend and my aunt also made additional baked goodies to display on the table. She added a few lanterns and some other items to really make it look amazing.

Lanterns - Martha Stewart Crafts, purchased at Michael's
Cake stands - personal collection, some made from thrift store purchases
Cupcake flags - made by me, materials (beads, sticks, paper) purchased at Michael's
Desserts - cakes from Pastry Garden, other baked goods homemade

A few other cute touches....a baby clothesline created by my mother-in-law, a banner created by me :), and I just had to post a photo of this adorable gift wrapping (gift from my mom)! Tim and I also created a photo guestbook (very similar to those that I create for weddings) that was a huge hit - we used photos of us from when we were kids, current photos and sonogram photos. If anyone is interested in seeing some close-ups of the book, just leave a comment below.

The shower was so great - thanks to everyone that helped out, especially my mom for going to great lengths to make the day perfect :) and for all the extremely generous and beautiful gifts (including a number of handmade knitted items!). I hope these photos and sources help with some wedding decoration ideas!!

Engagement Brunch: Marisa & Steve

Tim and I had a great time photographing Marisa & Steve's engagement brunch a few weeks ago. I had never been to Le Jardin Du Roi before, but it is a beautiful, intimate space, perfect for dinner or any small event. Great courtyard too.

Marisa & Steve - Thanks for having us as part of your day! We hope you guys had a great time and got used to all the attention :). Enjoy a sneak peek of your images!

Have to love Marisa's shoes :)

Happy Wednesday! I know a few people are probably excitedly waiting to see a sneak peek of their photos, so I thought I would hook you guys up :).

Uplift Photography is in the process of moving today, so emails will be a bit sparse for the next day or two as we get ourselves up and running again, but hopefully everyone will enjoy the preview :). These posts will be up on the blog soon, so check back for more images!

Also, if you were planning on sending me any snail mail, drop me a line for our new address....

Enjoy!

Shower Details

I took a bunch of images at my friend Sandy's bridal shower this past weekend - the decorations were all done by her mother and sister and I thought maybe they would provide some non-floral inspiration to my 2009 & 2010 red brides!

Manhattan Neighborhoods Reception

The opening night reception for the new PWP Exhibition: Manhattan Neighborhoods was great! There was a super turnout (I mean, when I got there, you couldn't even move - it was that crowded!) and the show selections and design were awesome. I brought my mom and Tim with me and even remembered to bring my camera so I could show the blogworld some photos from the night :). I only put on my fisheye because it was such a tight squeeze in there, and while it worked great to capture the scene, you must forgive the circular look on every.single.image.

I absolutely love sunny winter days. My mom and I took the commuter train into the city and this was the view along the Hudson River.

That's my mom trying to find my bio in the book - I think she might already know what it says :) IMG_7834_SMALL

There was an awesome view of Manhattan from the gallery (which is downtown and adjacent to the Office of the Manhattan Borough President, Scott Stringer). I don't get down there all that often, it was awesome! If anyone wants to do their engagement session down there, it would be perfect. This photo also shows my continued obsession with reflections...
