Our Awards Season

You guys are just awesome.  I woke up this morning to a little gem in my inbox and I'm so happy that it is from a bunch of people that I call friends :). Thanks for the great reviews guys - we so, so appreciate them (and so do our out-of-town brides!!!) and I'm not eloquent enough to explain on this blog how much it means to us to have you coming here to check out our work and all the other things that we are up to.  It really means everything to us.  Thank you!

We are honored to be both a the knot 'Best of' Weddings' pick (3 or 4 years running now!) and a Weddingwire Bride's Choice pick (is there a separate Groom's choice that we are not winning??? ha.)

Have a great day everyone!

Monday Updates, sort-of :)

Hey you guys!!!  Things are finally getting back to normal!  Today will be a little weird because I'm not going to do a full Monday update, sorry :(.  I know you were excited.  I'm still finishing up work from 2012 and want to get that all done before I start revealing all that is happening.  We have awards to talk about, trips, engagement sessions, Sophie (of course!), the holiday wrap-up, best-of posts, etc.  Lots and lots.  I also have been cooking up a storm and want to give you the thumbs up/down on a bunch of pinterest recipes!

But, for today.  This is what I'm leaving you with...have you been checking out the gorgeous sunsets lately?  These are taken from my deck or kitchen window with the iphone and then put through instagram (you can follow our public feed if you like - @upliftphotography).

So, back this week with lots more!  Hope you all are having a wonderful start to 2013!

2013!!!

Hey everyone!!!  So, so happy to be back!  I hope you all spent lots of time of family and friends, ate lots of good desserts, and played in the snow :).

2012 was an awesome year for us and we are getting so excited to see what 2013 is going to bring.  Bring.it.on.  I took a few days off from the blog in December - I hope you all understand.  It was difficult for me to post about such happy things - brides, weddings, babies, personal life, holidays, parties, etc., while such terrible things were happening in the world.  I feel like I had to give it a little space, really think about things, enjoy the holidays and spend time with my family and then just start fresh in the New Year.  Is that ok?  I hope so.

But, now we are back in business - loving life and I'm just so excited to show you everything that is in the line-up here.  Besides the epic 'best of 2012' post coming soon (!) and embarassing annual 'behind the scenes' photos, I have a bunch of great shoots and happy people to show you!  And, all the news of 2013 - including the fact that we are starting off our wedding season this year in the Bahamas!  Pretty awesome.

Here is a preview of what is coming up:

Happy 2013 everyone! It is going to be a great one.

Monday Updates!!

It is here.  Monday is upon us.  And, it feels good.  Especially good because I have a hilarious batch of photobooth pics from the holiday party to share this week!  Thanks to all that came out to the party- we had a blast!  It is so much fun to hang out and chat/drink/eat/photobooth :).

As the wedding season winds down, I'm so pumped to talk about all the other stuff that we have going on... including two awesome things that happened this week!  So exciting.  Each will have their own post soon, but...we are beyond happy to announce that we've been awarded the 2013 Best of Weddings from The Knot!  Official press release and internet bling coming soon, but I just had to post it today!

And...we have an amazing feature spot in the latest issue of Westchester/Hudson Valley Weddings Magazine!  Full-page photo on the back page.  Looking good Liz and Fred!  So awesome.  (we also have another photo in the middle of the mag!).

So, last week, I was a little insane with party prep.  If you have been following this blog for awhile, you probably have seen that I tend to go just the tiniest bit overboard in the party/holiday/food/enteraining dept, and cooking/baking are definitely hobbies of mine (I used to have a food blog too!).   My mom taught me to never not have enough food for people (bad double negative there) plus, I mean, come on, it is just fun to make mini-food for parties.  Pinterest kills me now too, like I don't have enough procrastination methods already thanks to the internet - do I need another recipe for cinnamon pull-apart bread?  Anyway, I have a lot of fun with it and you should think of it as a positive when you visit us (and come hungry) :).

Here are a few quick instagrams of the results (really wish I had taken more photos!).  ps. I didn't make the cannolis, but my friend Amelia did!  She is a good party guest, huh?

Just a tiny sneak peek of the photobooth insanity!!  Seriously, these are just a few that I grabbed quickly.  There are so many more and all are amazing. You guys brought it.  Ha.  And, Tim picked some pretty funny props.  I think next year we are going to make it a BYOHP party (bring your own hilarious prop party).  Start thinking now!
photoboothmashup (and, no, soph wasn't at the party, but she liked the photobooth the next day!)

To balance out all that craziness, I have to post this photo from my sweet session with baby Charlotte today.  Can you get over her hair??

Ok, see you all later! Back with a fun wedding post this evening!

Monday Updates: The Aftermath

Hey everyone! I'm back, are you guys here?  I'm sorry for the lack of posting last week, I know that I didn't even get an update post for you, but I didn't think it would take this long!  I'm definitely not complaining, because we are so incredibly lucky compared so so many others, but I apologize for the lack of updates here (you can always check my FB page though, which is worlds easier for me to update via mobile).  We just got power back late last night and probably just in time, we were starting to lose our minds a little!  We are very lucky to have warm places to stay (between Tim's mom, and my mom, and hotels, and friends), but with Sophie and all of our work, it is a bit much to lug around all of our stuff and work remotely for more than a few days (computers, cameras, batteries, flashes, oh yeah, and clothes, etc.).  We all did a happy dance in the driveway when we saw the outside light click on, just as we were driving away to spend another night somewhere else.  All will get back on track this week and if you need me, it will be much easier to reach me!  Thank you to all that sent me texts and emails to make sure we were ok, or to offer a place to stay - you guys are THE BEST.  I promise to thank you all with our annual holiday party announcement very soon!

And just a quick note here - I know the news is filled with 1000's of heart-breaking stories of loss, and this blog is really not a place for more of that, but I read a great article today that has some excellent locations to donate with a bit less red tape than the huge, national organizations.  You can check it out here, if interested - I am also planning on donating baby items to Waddle n Swaddle in Poughkeepsie.  I believe they are sending a truck down on Friday - see more info here.  I hope all of you guys weathered the storm ok, and are staying safe and warm.

So, I'm not going to post a ton today, but for the three weddings that we have shot since this superstorm came through, I wanted to post a tiny sneak peek!  You all are so patient!  We shot amazing weddings, with wonderful couples and families - people traveled from everywhere to make these events, changing flights, coming early, getting a rental car, whatever, to make it happen - these are my kind of people.  So awesome.

First up, Nadia and Tom at Falkirk Estates!  I have a ridiculous amount of photos that I love from their wedding, but this one just stuck out to me today.

And, Jenna and Kevin at Patriot Hills Golf Club - love love love this one Tim shot.
IMG_0177

And, from Saturday - Meghan and Stefan at the Westchester Hilton - I mean, come on.  I told you these were amazing!!
A98A7809

Ok, I have so much more to share, but I need to go edit weddings, email everyone, and tend to my little one too!  Promise to be back with so much more, soon.  Stay well everyone! And, keep your fingers crossed for the snowstorm to stay away!

Monday Updates!!

Good morning guys!  I'm up and at em early today and back with a new and juicy installment of Monday Updates!  First up, I have to post a sneak peek photo from Liz + Fred's wedding this past weekend....(I already posted some teasers from Sammie + Brian's wedding - you can see those here!).

You can't get better light than this...

And, here we all are! (can someone please tell me why my eyes can't stay open the same amount when I'm smiling??!!) IMG_1203

Some randomness from my week.  And, yes, that bottom lefthand photo is when Sophie decided to put yogurt all over herself :)

Thought I would show you guys a guestbook in action (these are from Casey + Connor's wedding last weekend) - these guestbooks are one of my most favorite things.  They come out so gorgeous and people just love to check them out at weddings.  Engagement sessions make the wedding day flow so much better too - you don't realize how useful it is to 'get used' to have your photo taken! IMG_4097

I also used the guestbook for a ring photo :) IMG_5733

Here is a fun photo of me, Casey and Samantha from Samantha + Brian's wedding this past weekend! Thanks Tim :). IMG_8850

Thought you guys might like this.  I found this freebie on the web a few weeks ago - cool, right?!  And free.  They have all the states and are perfect for a wedding or art wall or whatever. You could jazz them up with some names or a date, or a [here is the state we met] + [here is the state we got married in] type thing for a wedding.  Download whatever ones you like right here.

Oh yeah - I almost forgot!  Westchester Weddings Magazine selected Samara + Brian's wedding as their June Wedding of the Month!!  How cool is that!  Drop by and leave them some love if you have a moment :) Untitled

After a crazy week, we took yesterday off and hit the beach with Soph. She had a great time and so did we - here are a few pics. Gotta love the expressions on this kid. IMG_3365

Have a great week everyone!!

Monday Updates!

What's up everybody?  Good weekend?  Average weekend?  Hopefully better than average :).  This past week was my crazy week of engagement sessions!  I had another scheduled for today as well, but it got rained out.

The other day I met up with Nadia and Tom down in the city....really early.  Well, pretty early.  We toughed it out :) and had the best light and minimal crowds - score!  Aren't they so cute? IMG_1642

I got there a bit early and shot some instagram photos that I love -- so neat to see Meatpacking with no people! photototal (the one with the people was taken out my car window on my way home, while I was turning...probably not the safest idea).

Remember last week when I was asking for some gardening tips? Well, I didn't realize that Megan is super knowledgeable in this area (she runs a farm!!), so she helped me out while I was shooting their session..and she gave me some awesome tomato plants (heirlooms, don't be jealous people) too! Love this photo of them. IMG_0032

This photo was from another session that I shot at West Point.  It's fun for me to find new spots to shoot within places I've been many times before. Lots of fun getting new ideas. These guys are graduating and getting married in the same week!! Weliver0083

We ate on our deck for the first time this summer this weekend - some friends came over and it was so nice to be outside! I made these for dessert and they were ridiculously easy and so good. cookies (if you are going to make these, I made a few changes - swapped 1/4 cup butter for an egg, and added fresh blackberries to the top of the jam before adding the crumbs).

Tonight I'm making this broccoli soup - the name doesn't sound super appetizing or exciting, and its from a crazy cleanse diet, but is really good for you and we like it! I add a bit of cheese to it to pump it up a tiny bit, but otherwise, its great. The salad dressing recipe is awesome too.

Ok, that's all for now! Oh, except this new favorite photo of sophie and I that I took with my iphone :) photosmall

Have a great week!

Monday Updates!

Good afternoon everyone!  Hope you are all doing well today - nice to have a few rainy days right?  I don't mind it - it forces me to stay in and work on our to-do list...well, I don't mind it as long as it clears up for my engagement session on Wednesday :).

Wedding season is in full swing over here - two engagement sessions ( you can see a sneak peek of those on our FB page!) and a wedding just last week and lots more where that came from!  I'll be introducing lots of new couples on the blog soon enough - to get things started, here is a sneak peek from the wedding we shot at the Pearl River Hilton. Meet Teri + Kevin!
IMG_1174

Anyone else see this sunset last week? I had an awesome engagement session on Wednesday and as I was leaving I spotted this -- now, first I tried to instagram it while driving. I don't advise this. Realizing that it probably wasn't the best idea and my real camera was in the seat next to me, I pulled over and shot this. Wow - it was so gorgeous. Felt like a summer vacation. IMG_0068

I try to do a fun day trip with Sophie each week - local stuff, like parks, or hanging out with friends, or art class, etc.  We both love it.  Last week, I met up with my friend at this amazing park she knew about in New Jersey - the entire park is filled with cherry trees (Branch brook park)! So cool. It would have been a bit cooler if the trees hadn't reached their peak a week earlier (oops, this damn weather), but we made do. Love these -- IMG_0076

So, what's going on with you guys? Anything new? I have a bunch of fun stuff for Monday updates in the next few weeks - including some cool new frames and some ideas on hanging photos in your own place - excited for that. Sorry that today's post is a bit short because I'm running out to a meeting now, but I'm not leaving you totally - I have more for the blog this week! Woo hoo. Happy Monday everyone - hope its a good one :)

ps.  we are trying really hard to get the new website up this week!!!  I'm getting so excited about it, I think you guys will love it!

Monday Updates

Wedding Season begins!  This week is full of shoots - and the weather is just perfect.  I've had a few things rescheuled because of bad weather, so I have two engagment sessions and a wedding this week alone.  I'm so excited to get this season going - I have a ton of great couples and really beautiful locations to share with you guys.

For our last non-wedding weekend (for awhile at least), we headed up to the beach with our friends.  We had the best weather and a really great time (you know you are good friends with people when you can vacation with them :).  Sophie is a beach addict!  Tim had to drag her away from the water even though her clothes were soaked and the water was freezing. photo (22)

The babies just keep on coming around here too!  I had a session with an adorable little boy (only four days old!) the other day - you can see one of his pics here...and another one below.  Isn't he so cute?  Loving these sessions!
IMG_0694

I did some thrifting/antiquing/flea market type shopping with a friend this week and we found THE BEST and most on-trend antique shop ever. Seriously, whoever designed this shop has style for days -- so much inspiration! I wanted to get everything and then grill her for sources :). But, at least I left with some photos...photo (21)

Ok, two more things for today - I have been meaning to tell you guys about a new wedding inspiration site and online magazine! Bijou is run by a few really great and stylish ladies :), and is a great mix of style, funny, inspiration, trends, and real weddings to check out. Great reading. They put the word out that they are looking for some great stories from either recently married or engaged couples to feature in the online magazine. I thought that our couples would fit in great with the vibe, so if you are interested, drop them a line at bijoubridemag@gmail.com. bijou

They are also looking for opinions on your favorite vendors in the Hudson Valley area - so, if you love any of us (hopefully!), drop them a line and mention your favorites! The survey is for couples and also vendors, so I'll be sending in my list of favorite colleagues too.

And, lastly for today - my new album guide is done! Woo hoo! I've updated my album offerings and created a new document with lots of recent photos and helpful tips for selecting your album. Drop me an email if you'd like a copy! Untitled

Enjoy the amazing weather everyone!

Featured: Style Me Pretty New York!

What a great way to start the week!  Meredith & Eric's wedding has been featured over on Style Me Pretty New York!  Such a gorgeous website and love the post - thanks ladies! Back later on with the Monday update :).smp_040212

300th Post + Featured!

Wow, 300 posts! Awesome. And a great day to post some of the advertisements and blogs that we have been featured in lately :).

First up - Meredith & Eric's Bronx Zoo wedding was featured on the Glamour Magazine's wedding blog! Great article too!

A photo from their wedding was also featured in the BizBash National Venue Guide for the Bronx Zoo. Cool, huh? (our photo is the top right one!)

Then, the photos from Samara & Brian's wedding were used in an awesome advertisement for Lola's Cafe & Gourmet Catering (love love Lola's - they catered our wedding!) in Hudson Valley Magazine.

And, lastly for today :), Elements florals used a photo from Katrina & Tim's gorgeous wedding for their ad in the 2012 Grace Ormonde New England edition. Love that magazine (our photo is the bottom one - Elementz created the amazing lantern pathway)!
