Monday Updates!

Hey guys!  So happy to be here today!  It feels like I've been playing catch-up since the holidays and I'm happy to be posting on a regular basis now.  So what's up with you?  All good I hope!

I have a mash-up of things to post today, but I'm starting with something to make you hungry.  Superbowl snacks.  We kept it low key around here, but that didn't stop me from making some snacks for us!  I've been wanting to try out a few pinterest things (more on that soon!), so here is what I ended up with...

All were awesome and easy and now, definitely in the 'go-to' pile.  The sandwiches are ridiculous - you won't believe how ham and cheese gets transformed, I swear - it seems like magic.

Speaking of good food, our photo was featured on the WeddingWire blog!  So neat. You can check out the article on food trends here.  Our photo (bottom left) features appetizers by Lola's Catering from Samara + Brian's wedding last year.  Love Lola's!

Sophie's 3rd birthday was this past weekend.  Unbelieveable that she is three.  I'm going to put together a longer post for that too, but I had to show you this cake that I made.  It was awesome and a little..tedious..to make, but came out good in the end and totally worth it.  Sophie asked for a rainbow theme and I think this delivered!

And, here is the birthday girl, after she woke up :)

We also went to Florida last week for a little break - the warm weather was wonderful.

Love this shot that Tim took of us. A98A3154

And, last but definitely not least - I shot a wintery engagement session last week too!  These guys were so awesome and didn't even complain - it was freezing and it took about an hour for my fingers to come back to life!  #fingerlessglovesdontwork

This is one of my favorites!

And, some interesting links for you today (some serious and some not :)
  • So, I recently found out that kids pajamas contain flame retardants.  Am I really the last person to know about this?  The same chemicals that can cause/influence/lead to cancer and hormone issues?  Just my opinion, but I'm much more worried about influencing my child's chemical environment with products (especially during sleep, which is half your life!), than her leg accidentally touching a candle (which is under my control). We dumped all of our pj's that have the chemicals and will only buy snug-fitting cotton or other chemical-free alternatives.  Hundreds of dollars and all of those fleece pj's I love so much wasted.  I can't believe this hasn't hit the mainstream media hard.  Just an FYI, chemicals also heavily present in carpet, furniture and other baby items.  This kind of stuff really gets to me.  Why should Tim even work towards solving the mysteries of cancer when day to day life keeps infecting us without us knowing.  Ugh.  Don't get me started.
  • On to lighter topics, I know a lot of you guys are runners. You need this hat.
  • I love this poster.
  • Merry Meri posted this article and it is pretty hilarious.
  • Awesome DIY cleaning recipes from Cuddles and Chaos
  • Love this photo set - super cool.
  • My 2013 mantra.

Monday Updates!

It is Monday, but doesn't really feel like it, does it? Almost everyone I know (and seemingly, everyone on Facebook) is on vacation!

With the photography business, we usually have an opposite work-vacation type schedule to most. We do sneak away a few weekends in the summer because we have to get our New England summer fix, but we tend to slow down (or at least have less actual shoots) in the winter - think December, January. I can't believe that the summer is almost over and we are headed into the super busy fall season. This has been a great summer - with awesome weddings, and fun weekends off too - and I'm gearing up for what is going to be a busy and exciting fall. I'm already dreaming of pumpkins, and apples, and sweaters, but I am going to try to drag myself and all of our toddler gear to the beach at least one more time (you'll see - insane amounts of sand toys and towels and wipes and drinks are necessary for a successful toddler beach day, and also the copious amounts of sand on the way back, don't forget that).

Here is a glimpse into our wedding-less weekend - we decided to spend it at home... WIR (diner time, tim's new obsession, one of my favorite soups, hanging out on the deck, tried this new cookie recipe [they were awesome, didn't do slice and bake, just baked them as if they were regular cookies).

I shot an engagement session at 8am yesterday - pretty refreshing to shoot that early. I usually schedule sessions for the later afternoon because I'm addicted to the golden light that time of day, but the morning was pretty nice!  A sunrise shoot should be next!  Who's up for that?

Amanda and Jon were total troopers - getting so close together so early in the morning :). ha.  Loving this hammock shot. IMG_8729 IMG_8595

And, today just happens to be the first wedding anniversary of one of my awesome couples from last year - Yay Mike and Marcy! Happy Anniversary guys!

Oops! I meant to finish this post before I left for a shoot today, but I just couldn't squeeze it in (over-estimating how much I can do in a day?  that never happens :).   I met up with Alyssa and Rich this afternoon at a really cool park (entrance is hard to find and it seems sort of like a hidden treaure) - look for them on the blog in a few days :).  Alyssa is one of the cute bridesmaids in this photo (top right!) at Michelle & Jay's wedding a few weeks ago.  Their wedding will be a lot of fun since we'll already know people :)!

Ok, I'm done now!  Goodnight!

Monday Updates!

Hey everyone!  I missed you guys last week.  As I mentioned in my post the other day, we had a family emergency that is/was very serious, it was a flurry of activity around here and therefore, I was away from my office.  Thank you all for your messages and emails - we appreciate your good thoughts very much.

I'm back this week and excited to give some updates.  Did you know today was Left-Hander's Day?  I'm left-handed and love it.  I'd like to believe that it makes me more interesting :).  Anyone that is left-handed can sympathize with the ink stains on your hand, and while apparantly, we are supposed to be more creative, we are also more likely to be schizophrenic?  Hmm.  Maybe I should be happy that Sophie is looking like a right-hander.

Have you guys been on any exciting vacations? I get to see some of your pics on facebook, but would love to hear about any good spots! - especially driveable ones, we try to go on weekend trips during the few weekends we are not working and love new destinations (our favs have always been Cape Cod, other spots in MA and Maine).  Here is an article that has some other fun destinations ideas in it (we have been to Greenport and Saratoga Springs recently, both are a lot of fun). I have so many photos from this summer and they are just sitting on my computer - usually I print our photos during our 'off-season' (aka winter), but there are so many cute ones and Soph is growing so fast, that I thought I would post a few today - you can check them out below if you are interested.

I have two weddings that have not hit facebook or the blog yet, so I thought I would post a tiny sneak peek here :).  We are so lucky to have the best clients - no one stressed about the potentially rainy weather this past weekend, and both weddings went off perfectly!  Lots of photos to come, but for now...

Meet Amanda and Justin. IMG_0916

And, Meghan and Brian! IMG_5429

Love this photo Tim shot of me at Meghan and Brian's wedding.  I think it should be titled - 'a photographer, a deer, and a baby'. IMG_9243

Links and ideas that I've been checking out on the web these last two weeks...
  • So, the Olympics are over (thank goodness!!), but shark week is here.  We love all things ocean (fun fact - Tim and I both have degrees in Marine Biology :) in this house - think maybe I should get Tim this Chumbuddy for a holiday gift?
  • There are a ton of Olympic favorite moment count-downs on the web today, but our favorite happened here - while Tim was watching the TKD rounds, Sophie said, 'oh look dad, they're hugging!'.  They were actually clinching at the beginning of the fight.  Ha.  I have to say though - this man is beyond inspiring and probably my favorite story from the games.
  • Has anyone made this chocolate-chip cookie recipe?  Not sure if it can surpass my favorite recipe (find it via my old blog here), but maybe I'll give it a try.
  • Anyone in the UK want to get this for me?  I want to buy it for Sophie's room and its not very expensive, but the shipping to the US is over $40!!!
  • Awesome article re: parenting, but can apply to many other relationships too.
  • I have been feeling a little fallish lately, and starting to get antsy for all things apples-crockpots-sweaterswithnocoat - I have been pinning lots of easy and fresh crockpot ideas on pinterest - do you guys have any good ones for me?  Looking primarily for soups, stews, or other non-fat-laden type foods :).
Oh, and by the way - I know you guys must be missing Tim's posts, but hopefully he'll be back this week!  I'll let him tell you the details, but today was his first day of school :).  Crazy right?  I have some photographic evidence that I might post next week.

I'm going to head out to work on a wedding post (coming tonight!), but here are the summer photos that are topping my list right now. IMG_9413 IMG_9528

Happy Monday everyone - hope it was a good one!

Monday Updates!

Hey everyone!  Sorry for the late "Monday" update today (at least I'm not as bad as Tim :).  We had a crazy weekend - a wedding on Friday (photo sneak peek below!), and then a last minute family weekend trip to Long Island.  Love hanging out with the family and having Sophie play with my nieces and nephew.  Its the best.  Family is so important to Tim and I and our summer/fall schedule is just so crazy that it is difficult to get together with family on short notice.  So happy we were able to make it work.

Such an awesome wedding on Friday - we dodged the rain!!
IMG_2936_small IMG_2080

And a few photos from the rest of the weekend...I feel like summer is almost over already, need to get some more beach time in.  I will also mention here that we had no cell/internet service!  Didn't expect that - so I will be responding to all end-of-last-week and weekend emails in the next day or so.  Sorry for the delay!
IMG_3397 IMG_3356_small

Our house takes such a backseat to work, especially during the wedding season, but we have a bunch of unfinished spots and they are driving me absolutely nuts.  One is the downstairs bathroom - I started an awesome wall of photos and left it unfinished...but I made time one morning last week to hang the rest.  Now I just need to order the photos.  Hopefully it doesn't take me six months.

And, I found this chair - do you love it?  I love it, but Tim is not so sure.  Maybe he'll change his mind...something about the pattern that he doesn't like.  Maybe I should drag him to the store again to see if he changed his mind yet, or if he has gotten sick of me saying how much i love it. photo (20)

How cool is this car??  The people that own this are definitely cooler than me - I mean, there are surfboards on top!  They should have been in Blue Crush.photo (2)

And, of course, a few instagrams of my best buddy from this week :).  You guys are so good about dealing with my ridiculous amount of photos of her.

Great week ahead on the blog!  Two awesome weddings and an engagement session or two hopefully!

Monday Updates!

Oh yeah, its Monday!  I'm trying to get myself psyched up for Monday today, - I had a really awesome weekend and its hard to get back in the groove.  I usually love Mondays (my get-lots-of-stuff done day) though, so maybe this post will turn things around for me.  This post is mostly going to be about my weekend, with a few other bits of random thrown in.

First things first.  The other night, I was editing some photos and thought I should pass on this pic.  Editing photos + eating ice cream at 1am is just perfect.
photo

And, I thought I should mention that this pin did not work (I know a few of you guys pinned it).  I tried it and it failed.  I think I should submit it to Pinterest Fail.  Anyone else try anything lately?  I've done a few things - I'll try and get a pinterest post together soon :).

Exactly 1 year ago today, I was shooting Jen + Jason's wedding!!  A year really goes so fast.  Here are a few of my favorite pics from their wedding :). IMG_0801

And a real one too! Happy Anniversary guys!

And speaking of anniversaries....It was our 5-year wedding anniversary this weekend!  I know I already wrote a mushy post here (I know you all loved Tim's afro), but we took the weekend off and I thought I would show you what we were up to...
IMG_3657

We got married!!  Again. Crazy, right?  So funny.  The weekend was sort of crazy, I won't go in to total detail, but Tim planned for us to renew our vows.  We ended up finding a Justice of the Peace and getting remarried on one of our favorite beaches.  Each year, we like to buy each other the traditional gifts - for 5 years, it was wood.  So, Tim found some driftwood for us to get married in front of - he's pretty clever like that.  It was really amazing and special, and fun!  I even made a bouquet from some grocery store flowers in about 60 seconds (while we were on our way to the beach).  Ha!
IMG_3625_small

We were our own photographers :) (fyi, not so easy! 2nd pic is my fav) IMG_3849

IMG_3684_small

Afterwards, we went to dinner and made sure to have some dessert so we could use our new forks!  I have been dying to buy these forever (especially b/c we didn't buy a cake cutter/server for our wedding).  .

And yesterday, before coming home, we decided to go on a 'honeymoon' on the ocean...:).  My arms are a little tired today - I'm not sure a 5-mile kayak qualifies as relaxing!  And, yes, I finally had the courage to bring my real cameras out on the kayak... IMG_3669

Back with lots of posts and shoots this week and headed to Boston for a wedding this weekend!  Have a great week everyone!  And thanks for the anniversary love!

Monday Updates!

This weekend gave me hope for a bunch of sunny days, but...its raining again!  I have three engagement sessions this week and it better clear up!  Rant over.  So, how was your weekend?

Mine was wonderful!  You should know that I love all holidays and of course, that includes Mother's Day.  We have a few special Moms in our life and they do so much for us, so we always try to show them a good time.  This year Tim planned an awesome day for all of us - a cruise down the Hudson River.  With the gorgeous weather, it was perfect - the moms loved it, I loved it and Soph loved it too :). I hope all the moms out there had a great day, because seriously, where would the world be without moms (both literally and figuratively!)

Love love love this one. IMG_7202

Last week was insane. Last minute, we got asked to be a part of an event run by the Events & Catering at the New York Zoos and Aquarium - the event was to show off their new (and wonderful!) event space at the Prospect Park Zoo as part of a larger NYC & Co staff event. We shot some photographs and had a table and it was a flurry of insanity to get it all ready (found out 2 days prior!). We met a lot of great folks and had a great time. I love the spaces that they have too - can't wait to shoot another wedding there (check out Meri & Eric's wedding @ the Bronx Zoo)!

Oops, forgot to show you my mom's day gift from Sophie! Love that kid :) photo1

Now, here is a call for help - two areas...here is the first: photo4

Not exactly looking pinterest-worthy, huh? I know some of you guys must be spray paint experts - help!!! I bought this awesome rusty metal basket thing at an antique shop a few weeks back and I bought some flourescent paint. I thought I just had to spray it (thin coats a la Young House Love - any fans???). I feel like I read enough about spray painting things and it looks so easy, but mine looks like crap. Obviously, I wasn't going to stop as it looks in the photo - it needed more paint...but here is where it started to get worse. I did another coat and it started to bead up and got ruffled-looking and then sort-of rolled off?! Do I need to sand this puppy or something before painting? Someone please help :).

And then, landscaping. Another expert is needed :). I love to plant outside, but we have 1) deer and 2) groundhogs. And they.eat.everything. So, I went to the nursery and got some non-deer-loving plants (they said the furry and smelly ones were the most deer-resistant), but I don't know what to do about the groundhogs. Any advice before I make Tim trap them and drive them to New Hampshire or New Jersey?! Another caveat is that I really prefer natural-ish remedies (meaning, I don't want to poison them, or shoot them, or anything similar). Here are my current plants, and, in case any of you guys have deer issues, I'll keep you updated! photo

Off to a meeting! I'd love to hear what you were up to this weekend!

ps. I am planning on doing a blog series showing off what people have done with their wedding/engagement/family photos (whether its wall hangings, albums, or something else creative) - send me some photos and I'd love to include them!!
